Rich Chocolate Brownie Waffles, These are very rich–a chocoholic’s dream! Nice served with ice cream or a fudge sauce!, I added a tablespoon of cocoa; and some chocolate chips These are delicious! I also had them with homemade chocolate sorbet Decadent!, I really wanted to like them, but found that the end result just wasn’t worth the effort and the time it took to make them My usual chocolate waffle recipe is faster and easier (it does not, for example, require getting out my beaters) These are indeed very rich, actually far too much so for our tastes, but that’s just our preference so I’m not taking that into account in rating them My problems with this recipe are twofold: 1) The batter produces a *very* delicate waffle that refused to bake up well for me (and I’ve quite successfully made lots of waffles recipes) No matter how gently I worked, each and every waffle tore somewhere as I removed it from the iron 2) The directions are unclear and incomplete Example: It calls for sifted flour — then says, in the directions, to sift dry ingredients together So, does that mean that one should actually measure out 1 1/4 cups of UNsifted flour, then sift it with the other ingredients, or measure out 1 1/4 cups of sifted flour then sift it again? The ingredients call for unsweetened chocolate, not unsweetened chocolate, melted but nowhere in the directions is there a step calling for the melting of the chocolate; all of a sudden it just says to add the melted chocolate Similarly, the directions call for adding the milk with the vanilla added — but nowhere before that does it say to combine the two You really have to read over the recipe a time or two to interpret what needs to be done, to mentally add the steps that are not listed These do have a nice flavor, but I cannot see myself making these again except as perhaps a basis for a dessert
