Hearty Split Pea Soup!,The onions, carrots, celery, potatoes and garlic are sauteed first to enliven the sugars in them. This comfort soup gets a wonderful smokey flavor from your choice of ham bone or shank or smoked turkey wings. It’s swirled with sherry. Topped with bacon bits and croutons.,I enjoyed this version of Split Pea Soup although I changed around a couple ingredients. used beef marrow bones instead of a smoked meat because I couldn’t find an all natural option. I also used 2 yams for the potato ingredient and am not displeased with the result. It did give a sweetness to the soup which is unique I admit for pea soup but my family liked it. I made my own croutons highly seasoned with salt, oregano and basil. That and the bacon added just the right flavorings to the soup! Served with a green salad and a French red wine and we were set for a wonderful dining experience.,So good! Threw everything into the crockpot and then processed with a food processor – loved it!
