Almost Apple Pie, While this recipe is good any time it is the first one requested when the fall apples ripen It was passed to me by a family member The recipe calls for an 8×8 deep baking pan Family member uses a corning ware casserole dish for the baking which makes for a lovely dessert I often bake it in a pie plate and when cool slice and serve as you would pie Using white sugar in the crumb crust has it so tasting like pastry Quick and easy to make NOTE – recently found this recipe from an old family cookbook is called aunties ‘Old Fashioned Crumb Cake’ and calls for baking in a 425 oven for 40 to 50 minutes or until brown and crisp Just made it and found baked at the higher temperature it very like an apple crisp – an absolutely delicious version of Almost Apple Pie and another great apple dessert to serve family and friends Ovens vary – used a slightly lower oven temp , Here’s proof that you don’t need fancy ingredients to make an excellent dessert Yum, yum Gerry does it again I followed her higher temp directions found in About This Recipe and it produced a wonderful apple crisp Just the right amount of sugar in this too Easy, tasty and the recipe came from Gerry’s kitchen–what a winning combination–you know it has to be good , One of our friends brought a box full of apples back from MI We spent the morning canning apple butter and apple pie filling Hmmmm what to do with the left over apples Lucky for me, I came across this recipe While we enjoyed it, I think I will make a few changes the next time to suit our personal taste a little more I will use brown sugar or maybe half brown and half white in the crumb mixture, as well as add a touch of cinnamon to the crumb mixture as well I will also increase the amount of filling, because there is nothing like warm cinnamon apple flavor on a cool fall day Yum! Thanks for a way to use up my apples without having to mess with crust!
