Broccoli and Cauliflower Gratin Recipe

Features:

Loved the simplicity and taste of this recipe, though we did need to cook it quite a bit longer for our tastes. I found about 4 minutes was more accurate for our microwave, and it was still a bit crunchy even then. Great how the broccoli stays a bright green colour!

Trees and Snow, A childhood favorite Okay, we loved broccoli any way you served it, but this was a lot of fun You can, of course, serve the snow with other veggies, but then it wouldn’t be snow, would it? Because snow goes on trees It’s not quite as nummy with raw trees, but still pretty good, so that one’s up to you The broccoli-cooking method works well with most veggies (just adjust acidity and sweetness to taste) You may want to add a pat or two of butter if you’re not using snow with it When I say mayonnaise , I mean Best Foods/Hellman’s Use another brand at your own risk I am not responsible for any resulting implosion of the universe if you use Miracle Whip , Loved the simplicity and taste of this recipe, though we did need to cook it quite a bit longer for our tastes I found about 4 minutes was more accurate for our microwave, and it was still a bit crunchy even then Great how the broccoli stays a bright green colour!, A childhood favorite Okay, we loved broccoli any way you served it, but this was a lot of fun You can, of course, serve the snow with other veggies, but then it wouldn’t be snow, would it? Steps

    1
    Done

Cut Broccoli Into Florets, Preferably Large-Ish Ones With Plenty of Stem. Cut the Sides Off the Bottom Part of the Stem, Discard the Very Bottom and Sides, and Slice, If So Desired (they're not Trees, but They Can Be "stumps".)

    2
    Done

    Place in a Microwave-Safe Bowl.

    3
    Done

Pour in Water and Vinegar or Lemon Juice.

    4
    Done

Sprinkle With Sugar and Salt to Taste. (don't Overdo It; You Can Always Adjust Later.)

    5
    Done

    Cover With Plastic Wrap.

    6
    Done

Microwave About 1 Minute 15 Seconds, or Until Broccoli Is Very Bright Green and Just a Little Soft, but Still With All Its Yummy Crunch.

    7
    Done

Remove Covering and Let Cool a Bit; Trees Are Good Either at Room Temperature or a Little Above, but You Don't Want Them to "melt" the Snow!

    8
    Done

Mix Mayonnaise and Sour Cream Well to Make Snow.

    9
    Done

Serve Trees With Snow For Dipping, or Lay Out Trees on Plate and Use a Spoon to Dab Snow on Their Tops.

    10
    Done

    Enjoy!
