Vegemite on Toast,Vegemite is an Australian food icon, which can be consumed daily. It is a spread made mainly from concentrated yeast extract that is leftover from the beer brewing process, but that doesn’t make it alcoholic.,As others have commented I grew up eating vegemite on toast. Married a Canadian and moved to Vancouver where I am somewhat shocked to see I could purchase my breakfast staple in the local large chain grocery store. My favorite is vegemite on toast with mashed avocado (salt and pepper). My brother in law calls it vege-poison. A spoon full in a stew also adds another taste dimension.,Another favourite at our house is vegemite on toast with a fried egg on top – a great breakfast! Or buttered toast with a smear of vegemite and then avocado spread on top. Tomato slices, as others have said, on vegemite is great too – so many ways to enjoy!
