Homemade Cheeseburger Macaroni

Regular at our house, kids love it. After making a few times I played with it just a little; instead of water use stock or add beef base, several grinds of black pepper and 1t of oregano. Really kicks it up a notch.

Homemade Cheeseburger Macaroni Hamburger Helper,We like Hamburger Helper but we don’t like the MSG or other icky ingredients! You can prepare “sauce packets” ahead of time to save time. Increase/alter seasonings and/or cheese to suit your tastes!,Regular at our house, kids love it. After making a few times I played with it just a little; instead of water use stock or add beef base, several grinds of black pepper and 1t of oregano. Really kicks it up a notch.,This recipe is on regular dinner rotation in our house, but I found it rather bland as-is. The cooking method, however, and proportions of meat/milk/water/pasta are perfect, which is why it definitely deserves 4 stars as a great starting point. Here’s how my garlic-loving Italian family of 7 likes this: – After browning the meat, drain and add 1/2 a diced onion and a clove of minced garlic. Cook down for a few minutes, then add the rest of the ingredients per the recipe. – Before boiling, add a squirt of yellow mustard and a few dashes of cayenne pepper sauce (we like Franks). This seemed to give the dish the zing of acidity it was missing. -At the end of cooking, I usually add a bit more salt, mustard, hot sauce and black pepper to taste. And as any good Italian, a few extra shakes of garlic powder. OH, and more cheese. Always more cheese!
