Homemade Drain Cleaner and Declogger,For those of you who hate poison-type drain cleaners, use white vinegar and baking soda. This will clean and unclog a drain. Also drops of white vinegar in your pet’s water will keep away fleas and ticks!,I would give it a five star, but,,,,,today I had to help my cousin clean up one heck of a mess. First I plunged the sink a little, to get stuff moving. Once I knew there was no liquid in the pipes, used my fav trick, baking soda and vinegar, elementary volcano! I must mention, putting a bit of salt on the baking soda helps the initial blast. This does not work on a build up of a couple weeks. They noticed the water was draining just a tad slower than normal, but were remolding another part of their home and set it to the side. After the volcano trick, we went to a 25 snake, nothing, then added an air compressor, knocked a little loose, but no cigar, air compressor snake and water hose, not quite there yet, finally removed about 6 of the pipe, did the previous trick in both directions, multiple times, after about 2 hours, all fours cigars were lit! EVERYONE DO THE BAKING SODA AND VINEGAR BEFORE YOU GET TO THIS POINT!!! It does work! Better than any store bought liquids!,This seems to work, but I did not have a big problem with clogged drains, so I am unable to say that this “saved” me (5 stars). The ingredients are “green” so I will continue on other drains and toilets throughout the house, and if I notice improvement in their draining, I shall return to upgrade my review. I followed the style of one reviewer and poured a pot of boiling water down the drain 5 minutes after the baking soda and vinegar treatment. One question: when I first learned to cook, “vinegar” always meant apple-cider vinegar, and “white vinegar” was always written out when it was to be used. I wonder if it even makes any difference whether apple-cider vinegar or distilled white vinegar is use. Used this method based on Color Guard’s review for “I Recommend” tag. UPDATED FROM 1/11/2009 REVIEW ON 3/16/2018: Nix on the boiling water – it cracked the porcelain in my sink, so now I must replace it.
