Lentils and Rice (Koshary) (Egypt), Yet another recipe I discovered on the World Hearth Circle of International Cooking This looks promising as a meatless main dish or a side dish , This isn’t a real recipe for koshary Traditional koshary has pasta, garbanzo beans, spicy tomato sauce, and crispy fried onions (as a topping) in addition to rice and lentils If you want to experience REAL koshary, find a different recipe This looks like a good side dish though , Koshary or Lentils and Rice receipe was different than I was taught I love the dish and the lentils and rice, sauce, and elbow macaroni I cooked the lentils twice as long as the rice and added chicken bullion to the water I cooked it all more than 45 minutes in total or the lentils will be hard The receipe needs to be re-written and corrected My results and directions are different than the printed receipe Sill a great dish

Heat Oil in Pan, Add Onion and Fry For 3 Minutes. |

Add Lentils, Water, Pepper and Cumin. |

Bring to a Boil and Simmer For 5 Minutes. Add 2 Cups Water and Bring to a Boil. |

Add Rice and Salt and Continue to Boil. |

Then Reduce Heat to Low, Cover the Pan and Simmer For 15 Minutes. |

Remove from Heat and Let Sit For 10 Minutes. Serve. |
