    Lentils and Rice (Koshary) (Egypt), Yet another recipe I discovered on the World Hearth Circle of International Cooking This looks promising as a meatless main dish or a side dish , This isn’t a real recipe for koshary Traditional koshary has pasta, garbanzo beans, spicy tomato sauce, and crispy fried onions (as a topping) in addition to rice and lentils If you want to experience REAL koshary, find a different recipe This looks like a good side dish though , Koshary or Lentils and Rice receipe was different than I was taught I love the dish and the lentils and rice, sauce, and elbow macaroni I cooked the lentils twice as long as the rice and added chicken bullion to the water I cooked it all more than 45 minutes in total or the lentils will be hard The receipe needs to be re-written and corrected My results and directions are different than the printed receipe Sill a great dish

    Heat Oil in Pan, Add Onion and Fry For 3 Minutes.

    Add Lentils, Water, Pepper and Cumin.

    Bring to a Boil and Simmer For 5 Minutes. Add 2 Cups Water and Bring to a Boil.

    Add Rice and Salt and Continue to Boil.

    Then Reduce Heat to Low, Cover the Pan and Simmer For 15 Minutes.

    Remove from Heat and Let Sit For 10 Minutes. Serve.
