Mom’s Favorite Casserole, This was a German dish but I’ve been making it so long I can’t remember where I ever found it Over the years it has changed some too My kids grew on this and ask for it even now There’s just something real good about the combined flavors , I wasn’t quite sure about this recipe I lightly browned the ground beef, (seasoned with Lawry’s seasoned salt and some pepper) before adding to the baking dish used a (15 5oz ) can of the kidney beans, drained used 12 slices of bacon, partially cooked I omitted the garlic salt, and used 2 c hot water, and 3/4 c of cream, ( I’m sure milk would of been fine ) No way would 1 c hot water been enough liquid for this recipe I also used both packets of the seasonings that came with the boxed potatoes, and baked it in the oven for 40 minutes After eating this casserole, I think it would taste much better without the kidney beans, and I should of used 2 c hot water, and 2 c of milk total Also, make sure you use a 2 1/2 quart casserole dish to bake it in In all, I’d give this recipe 3 stars, but if you omit the kidney beans, I’d give it 4 stars , An excellent casserole Love the fact that it’s mostly convience foods This proves you can come home and throw something together and still come up with something that tastes homemade!
