New York City Black and White Cookies,Look to the cookie. These cake-style cookies are a staple in New York City. Growing up we used to buy these all the time and you can still get them in every bake-shop in the city. They were made famous to the rest of the world by an episode of Seinfeld entitled “The Dinner Party”. They are more like small cakes than crunchy or chewy cookies, and should be roughly the size of the palm of your hand, if not, bigger. These are great for taking to a potluck, or if you’ve got a wayward New Yorker around.,I had one of these on Friday from a Jewish bakery. On Saturday night I wanted more! But that bakery is super far from me so I found this recipe! used the buttermilk sub(whole milk+vinegar) and they are PERFECT! They taste just like the one from the bakery. They were also extremely easy. Thank you for this wonderful recipe!,This recipe was great the way it was written. The cookies were the perfect cake-like consistency. I wasn’t able to get the white and chocolate icing the exact same consistency, but it was good regardless, The vanilla was definitely icing consistency and the chocolate was like ganache. My family didn’t care because the flavor was on point and we love some thick chocolate. The only real struggle I had was with shaping. Give your cookies lots of room to bake (like only bake 4 at a time) and shape into a circle before you throw them in the oven. Again, the ovals are just aesthetic. My eaters couldn’t have cared less about the shape.
