Selyodka Pod Shuboy Dressed Herring

Features:
    Cuisine:

Hi, and thank you for the recipe. I ate it so many time, but never did this dish before, I had my wife birthday and wanted to do something that I am not usually cooking. Your recipe was like a guide for me. Sorry but I did some changes that probably will be interesting for somebody. Also: first layer in my dish are potatoes, explanation: when I put the fish above the potatoes( fish I will prepare like it was in original recipe, but I will ad to already ready fish 2-3 tablespoons (30-45 ml) of canola oil, all the fish taste will soak in potatoes, what brings richer taste, and I will not use mayonnaise for the potatoes fish layers, Next modification: I will mix the beets with half cup of the dry cranberry's, and the last modification , will cover ready dish with the small pieces of pecans or whole nuts 1/8 inch pieces. I hope someone will appreciate it. P.S. also I took away the onion, not because I don't like (my wife doesn't like it) but I would keep it for me.

Selyodka Pod Shuboy (Dressed Herring), The Russian name is Selyodka pod Shouboy , that means Herring under fur coat It is a traditional national dish for just about any event A more common name for this is Dressed Herring Dressed Herring is loved and considered one of the most delicious salads by Russians everywhere Try and enjoy! Selyodka pod Shouboy is served as an appetizer, accompanied by icy cold vodka , Hi, and thank you for the recipe I ate it so many time, but never did this dish before, I had my wife birthday and wanted to do something that I am not usually cooking Your recipe was like a guide for me Sorry but I did some changes that probably will be interesting for somebody Also: first layer in my dish are potatoes, explanation: when I put the fish above the potatoes( fish I will prepare like it was in original recipe, but I will ad to already ready fish 2-3 tablespoons (30-45 ml) of canola oil, all the fish taste will soak in potatoes, what brings richer taste, and I will not use mayonnaise for the potatoes fish layers, Next modification: I will mix the beets with half cup of the dry cranberry’s, and the last modification , will cover ready dish with the small pieces of pecans or whole nuts 1/8 inch pieces I hope someone will appreciate it P S also I took away the onion, not because I don’t like (my wife doesn’t like it) but I would keep it for me , This is very good recipe but to make this salad perfect you will need a big salad bowl to make your layers work In traditional recipe you use marinated herring which you can find in Russian grocery stores sometimes they called Euro markets If you are lucky to find Russian marinated herring you will need to debone it to make filets even one missed bone can ruin the salad but you can use super store marinated herring in jars but I find it too acidic and over marinated You will need to pat dry it first to remove all marinade and than place it in milk for few hours In my family we shred the onions and mince the herring but both ways work good
