    It is a great base recipe. I added 1 tsp. oregano, basil and onion powder, 1 small can mushrooms, 1/2 a small can of tomato paste, and instead of 2 cups of water, I used beef broth. It's enough for my family of 4 + 4 lunches for me. Thank you for putting this up! I'm not offended by the word "poverty" BTW.

    Saute onions and garlic in olive oil until translucent.

    Brown ground beef and drain.

    Add ground beef, tomatoes, water, raw macaroni, salt and pepper to the onion and garlic mixture.

    Cook for 15 to 20 minutes or until macaroni is tender.

    Delicious! I used spring onions rather than shallots because of what I had on hand and the splash of tabasco gave it a nice little kick that blended wonderfully with the other flavours. I tried a few each way and also preferred them when left to marinate for 15 minutes or so.
